Yellowjackets: Season 3

It didn’t just raise the stakes—it rewrote the rules

SEASON THREE RECAP

Season 3 of Yellowjackets didn’t just raise the stakes—it rewrote the rules. Picking up after the cabin fire, the remaining Yellowjackets are facing a more fragile survival. The season explores the aftermath of the fire, the lingering trauma, and the struggles that simmer within the group as they navigate their existence in the wilderness.

The present-day storyline dives into the aftermath of Natalie’s death and the secrets that continue to surface. We continue to see these secrets push the women to confront their past as well as the lingering influence that the wilderness still has on them. With new faces coming back.

STAND OUT CHARACTERS

Teen Shauna/Adult Shauna - In the teen timeline she is the Antler Queen of the Yellowjackets. Crazy, a savage, a fearsome leader. Well more of a queen than a leader; becoming a true villain in the series. In the present timeline: Shauna is starting to become more of who she was back in the wilderness. Both Sophie Nélisse and Melanie Lynskey bring out that dark side of Shauna.

“The person I was back then. Not a wife or a mother. I was a warrior. I was a fucking queen. I let all of it slip away from me. It’s time to start taking it back.” [03x10 “Full Circle”]

Nat - The Yellowjackets true leader. She strove towards a peaceful, democratic, human rule. Under her leadership, it was trying to survive until they could get rescued and focus on the group being united instead of divided. Nat is empathetic towards the needs and emotions of the other girls which shows true leadership. Especially since the ending of season 2, all of them were ready to kill her when she was being hunted. Sophie Thatcher brought Natalie to life in new ways. Especially with the first snowfall the second time, the emotion that she portrayed of their last hope of going home was wasted and lost. The scream she made was truly heartbreaking.

“Oh my god, you have the f*cking transponder.” [03x09 “How the Story Ends”]

Mari Ibarra - The Pit Girl! The most iconic death in the whole series. Season 2 Mari was theorized to be Pit Girl. The attitude she possessed in that season. But season 3 Mari-she just wanted her slurpee and cheeseburger and to go home. Her death was very notable for 1) being the opening scene way back in the very first episode of the  first season and 2) she knew they needed another hunt in order to distract Shauna so that Nat could call and get rescued. She turned into one of a fan favorite and it was hard to see her not be one of the survivors in the present timeline. Alexa Barajas portrayed Mari in a way that you could love her or be annoyed at her. But towards the end you were rooting for her survival and wanting it different even though the outcome was set in stone.

“Go f*ck your blood dirt, Lottie.” [03x07 “Croak”]

TOP 5 MOMENTS OF THE SEASON

  1.  The screeching/screaming sounds the girls heard in the wilderness were frogs mating.

  2.  Mari is PIT GIRL!

  3.  Shauna is the antler queen

  4.  Callie killed Lottie

  5. Melissa being alive, and marrying the frog scientist Hannah’s daughter. Hannah is most likely dead but we don’t know how or why.

OUR FINAL THOUGHTS

Best episode: Was  definitely the finale “Full Circle”. Have gotten so many hints from the first season and even the first episode letting us know that they end up hunting one another and resorting to eating one another in order to survive. Yet everything we knew about that scene went out the window. How they didn’t need to do another hunt in order to survive, that the whole hunt was a decoy for Nat to escape and call for help. And Misty’s SMIRK! The smirk that we thought meant she was having fun hunting one another but no! It was because Nat got away. The episode along with this season answered so many questions and can’t wait for season 4.

The most shocking scene: Season 3 had a ton of shocking scenes. Such as Lottie killing one of the scientists with an axe to the head, the reveal of Shauna being the Antler Queen, the whole hunt being a decoy, Melissa being alive and Shauna thinking Melissa is still in love with her, and the other Tai being with us the whole time.

The breakout star: Jenna Burgess as Melissa. Her character arc in just this season has been evolutionary. Going from a  background character to a main character that helps make decisions for the group. She was annoying when she sliced Coach Scott’s Achilles heel but her character evolving  into realizing how Shauna isn’t a nice person and leaving her to help the group find rescue. The heartbreaking scene of Melissa asking having a standoff with Shauna where Melissa gets shot at was heart stopping. As well as when she tackled Shauna and was trying to kill her but didn’t.

The MVP: Sophie Thatcher playing Natalie Scatoricco. Hands down, this season was extraordinary for her. The emotions that were portrayed while she had to kill Coach Scott from his misery as he pleaded and begged for it. The scream of realizing that it’s winter again was felt
